These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of ReWiseEd Research Tools at itsmyresearch.com (the "Service"), operated by ReWiseEd ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
The Service provides browser-based research tools — literature search, DOI lookup, originality signals, research-question generation, qualitative coding assistance, peer-review simulation, citation and document formatting, and related features. Several tools operate on a "bring your own key" (BYOK) basis: requests to AI providers are made directly from your browser using API credentials you supply, under your own agreement with that provider.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to create an account.
- You must provide accurate registration information, keep your password secure, and promptly notify us of any unauthorized use. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- Administrator roles are granted at our discretion and may be scoped, changed, or revoked at any time.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law, infringe others' rights, or upload content you have no right to process;
- probe, disrupt, overload, or circumvent security or rate limits of the Service, or access it by automated means except through documented interfaces;
- misrepresent AI-generated work as human work, or use the tools to violate the academic-integrity policies of your institution — the tools support honest research; how you use their output is your responsibility;
- use the originality/AI-detection tool to make punitive decisions about other people's work — its results are statistical signals, not proof (see Section 5);
- upload malicious code, or content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringing, to profiles or any part of the Service;
- resell or commercially redistribute the Service without our written consent.
4. Your content and keys
- Text, documents, and profile information you provide remain yours. You grant us only the limited license needed to operate the Service (e.g., storing your profile, displaying it to permitted users).
- Tool inputs (papers, transcripts, references) are processed in your browser and are not stored on our servers.
- BYOK API keys are stored only in your browser and are used solely to call the provider you configure. Your use of those providers — including their costs, quotas, and content policies — is between you and them. We are not responsible for provider charges.
5. AI and research outputs — no warranty
- Outputs produced by AI models or by heuristic analyses (including citations, formatted references, generated research questions, peer-review feedback, plagiarism/AI-writing signals, and scholarly matches) may be incorrect, incomplete, or misleading.
- Outputs are not professional, legal, medical, or academic advice. Verify everything before relying on it, citing it, or submitting it.
- Originality and AI-writing indicators are probabilistic signals with known false positives and false negatives. They must never be the sole basis for decisions about a person or their work.
- Scholarly data comes from third-party indexes (OpenAlex, Crossref) that we do not control and whose accuracy we do not guarantee.
6. Availability and changes
The Service is provided without uptime commitments. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features (or the Service itself) at any time, and may impose usage limits to protect the platform. We will make reasonable efforts to notify account holders of material changes.
7. Suspension and termination
We may suspend, disable, or delete accounts that violate these Terms, create risk for the Service or other users, or are required to be removed by law. You may delete your account at any time from your profile page; deletion is permanent.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR ACADEMIC OR PROFESSIONAL OUTCOMES, ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the smallest amount permitted.
10. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, or your violation of law or third-party rights.
11. Intellectual property
The Service's software, design, and branding are our property or that of our licensors. These Terms grant you no rights to them except the right to use the Service as intended. Feedback you send us may be used without obligation to you.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version and its effective date always appear at the top of this page, and material changes will be communicated to account holders (e.g., by email or an in-product notice). Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which ReWiseEd is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes shall be brought in the courts of that jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you hold as a consumer under mandatory local law.
